Capt'n Sailorbird
The animated Capt'n Sailorbird introduced this 1958 series of shorts which featured European cartoons, dubbed in English and serialized for insertion into local kids shows.
Jayark Storybook
Another series of dubbed cartoons produced in Europe. This series, distributed by Jayark in 1958, was later known as "Bozo's Storybook".
Bozo the Clown
Larry Harmon produced these animated adaptations of Capitol Record's famous clown for Jayark in 1959.
Spunky and Tadpole
A little boy, Spunky, and his life-sized teddy bear, Tadpole, are featured in this cartoon from Beverly Film Corporation, originally syndicated in 1958. Voices were done by Joan Gardner, Don Messick and Ed Janis.
Winky Dink And You
The original interactive children's show, hosted by Jack Berry. Winky, an animated cartoon boy voiced by Mae Questel, and his dog Woofer have adventures which require the intervention of home viewers using crayons and magic transparent Winky Dink screens placed over their TV's. The series originally aired on CBS-TV from October 10, 1953 through April 27, 1957.
The Adventures of Pow Wow
The stories of Pow Wow, a little American Indian boy. The cartoon originated as a local kids show in the early 1950's, and was revived as an animated series in 1957 by Sam Singer for CBS-TV's "Captain Kangaroo".
Crusader Rabbit
Jay Ward and Alex Anderson originated the Crusader Rabbit and Rags characters in the late 1940's. The series was revived in 1957 by TV Spots as a full-color series for syndication.
Howdy Doody
Originally airing as "Puppet Playhouse" on NBC-TV, Howdy Doody ran from December 27, 1947 through September 24, 1960 and hooked millions of baby-boomers on the infant television medium. Hosted by Buffalo Bob Smith, the show featured Howdy Doody, a marionette, and the denizens of Doodyville in stories and adventures geared towards the youthful members of the Peanut Gallery.
