The Ballad Of Smokey The Bear, narrated by James Cagney (as Big Bear). Originally seen November 24, 1966 on NBC-TV, this full-length special, filmed by Rankin-Bass in their Animagic stop-motion animated puppet process, told the story of how a timid little bear cub overcame his fears and became the legendary symbol of the U.S. Forest Service fire prevention program.
The Festival Of Family Classics, from Rankin-Bass Productions, featured animated adaptations of favorite literary classics for children. It was syndicated in the fall of 1972 as a way for TV stations to program the local half-hour that the FCC forced the networks to return to them. The episodes on this DVD are "Yankee Doodle", "Johnny Appleseed" and "Paul Bunyan".
